The secret to longevity of frozen food
Source:   Author:

1、 Revealing the magical shelf life of frozen food

After rigorous freezing treatment, the shelf life of meat can usually reach about one year. However, this number is not fixed, and different types of meat have their own expiration dates when frozen: beef and lamb have a shelf life of 3 to 4 months when refrigerated, pork has a shelf life of 4 to 5 months, and poultry such as chicken and duck have a shelf life of 2 to 3 months.

For fish, the shelf life in a frozen state is also one year. However, it should be noted that the shelf life of fish may be affected by species and processing methods, so it is recommended to adjust it flexibly according to the actual situation.

Vegetables and fruits can also have a longer shelf life in a frozen environment, usually 1 to 2 years. However, for some perishable vegetables such as spinach and cauliflower, their freezing period is relatively short, only 3 to 6 months.

As for pastry foods such as buns and dumplings, their freezing period is usually between 3 to 6 months.

And dairy products, such as ice cream and milkshakes, can also remain fresh in freezing, with a shelf life of about one year.

2、 Mastering the ingenious techniques of using frozen food

Quick Thawing: To restore the taste of food, frozen food can be heated in the microwave to the appropriate temperature. In addition, soaking in hot water is also an effective thawing method, but it is important to note that the water temperature should not be too high to avoid affecting the taste of the food.

Preventing food adhesion: Leaving appropriate gaps between frozen foods can effectively prevent adhesion. In addition, wrapping with cling film or plastic bags is also an effective way to prevent food from sticking.

Regular inspection: The shelf life of frozen food is not absolutely constant and needs to be checked regularly based on factors such as the temperature of the freezer and the actual condition of the food. Once signs of spoilage are found in food, it should be discarded immediately to avoid any impact on health.

3、 Be vigilant! Taboos on frozen food

Do not directly transfer food from room temperature to the freezer. Instead, let the food cool to room temperature before freezing.

Avoid repeated thawing of food, as this not only damages the taste of the food, but may also lead to the loss of nutrients.

Do not put plastic bags filled with food directly into the freezer, as plastic bags may shrink when they are cold, causing food contamination. By deeply understanding and cleverly utilizing freezing technology, we can better preserve food, extend its shelf life, and also be alert to some common misconceptions to ensure food safety and health.
